Have you ever noticed that you can email people with special offers and have a good response but…. The moment you offer something for free, even if only tickets for a Fashion Show and the response soars?
I guess in these times we’re even more aware of money than ever. I should know, thanks to my husband’s frugality, I now wash my tops regularly rather than splash out and buy enough for 10 days.
That will obviously change near Christmas when selling some lovely jewellery will get me a couple of tops. So, thank you to my customers for keeping me clothed!!!! but don’t worry I don’t own a Ferrari.
In fact, it’s a Honda Jazz and I only bought it as the seats flip up like cinema seats so doggie can have her boudoir on the car floor (and so my husband can’t see tiny doggie hairs floating by). I wonder how many of my customers adore dogs?
It’s no secret (certainly not when my husband checks the debit card transactions) that I love Rudding Park.
It’s funky, you’re treated like a Princess (even if you’re only buying a coffee) and you don’t need to spend a fortune. I don’t. I just sit in a cosy settee, put my feet up (I take my shoes off but hide my feet under my bag as don’t want to look totally Boho) and sup a Decaf Coffee with cream. I pretend to read a book while people watching.
Being shallow, I love it when the staff come over and recognise you. I sometimes wish I wasn’t so shallow but sometimes it’s nice to belong, isn’t it?
Meanwhile my dog waits patiently in the car (out of the sun obviously) for the trot in the woods. We once took her in as it is dog friendly. Sadly she is not people friendly and my hubbie couldn’t cope with the embarrassment of her snarling at waiters. Neither could I. She thinks everyone is going to beat her til she trusts them. She’s 13 this month, my baby dog.
I’m sure any of you dog lovers with naughty pooches experience embarrassment at some point or other.
Have you noticed when sometimes you think you’re on the wrong path that something comes along to boost you up?
I seem to have got more commissions than ever and more shops contacting me and yet I was about to give it all up!! Sometimes I wish I was like my wee pooch. There’s no regrets or pointless anxiety (unless a stranger tries to stroke her). She just wants her brekkie, her dinner, 3 – 4 walks and lots of strokes. If she can go and wallow in some water (preferably stinky, even better).
But then, I realise that Jade the Jack Russell can’t make jewellery and isn’t allowed into restaurants. Tried out the Orchid in Harrogate recently – gorgeous food. Well worth a visit.
So, I’ll stay me after all.
I met up with 2 lovely friends recently and realised it’s wonderful to meet them without having to ask a boss for permission.
Betty makes the most gorgeous cards and they’re so detailed and beautiful that she can only make 17 in a day. Of course, although she’d deny it, there will be some fannying around in there. She charges £2 per card and yet they are better than any others I’ve come across. She enjoys it but if you want to buy Betty’s cards, please do. Her hubbie will be retiring soon and I’ve no idea who will keep her in the style to which she’s accustomed.
Apparently, if she won the lottery she’d get a caravan. What would you do?
Ben makes pinnies inspired by a golden era of Stepford Wives and glam pusses. Think the exclusive Betty’s cafes with a contemporary twist. I love the cupcake ones – at lest there’s no calories there. If you want to see her stuff, just do a search on Mrs Madden Makes.
They’re both talented and it’s inspired me to keep carrying on with the jewellery, even though it can be a wee bit of a struggle at times.
I’m London’s premier business coach and maybe we should talk…….

“Well, I’d been pretending to anyone who would listen that my business was just doing brilliantly.
It wasn’t and
it was only with Jeanette that I could be honest and improve sales. Thank Goodness. I’m still in business.”
RR, MD of a Yorkshire based firm.
Now, I need to be honest. After 3 years of continuously eating Maltesers, I’m no Slim Jim myself.
However, I can carry on being a fatty and making excuses or I can take action.
If you want to lose weight, I strongly recommend following Dr Charles Clark’s books as he works on reducing insulin which reduces sweet cravings and reduces fat deposits. For me, it’s working. I don’t want to keep eating sweets. The meals are delicious and as this is the first weight loss plan I’ve stuck to, it must be good.
What’s more when I go out I back it up with a bit of Cognitive Therapy so if I see something I want to eat and know is not allowed, I think, ‘I don’t need that cake. If I eat that cake I will not lose weight this week, it will take longer to reach my goal and I won’t look fabulous by Christmas. I am having tea in 2 hours and I can wait.’
Feel free to try this and see how it goes.
I’ve just been reading my previous blogs and realise what a dullard I’ve become.
I’m acting as if I’m still in the corporate world, feeling I have to mask my personality and talking about things that I actually care little about.
So, from now on it’s back to the person I actually am.
If there’s anyone else out there who feels they’re playing a part and they’ve forgotten who they actually are, email me jeanette@jeanettesargent.co.uk.
It would seem that a number of companies (KCOM is in the press today) are altering pension schemes so that they can have money in the coffers.
Clearly Unions and employees won’t be partying at this news but if it genuinely is a choice between keeping your job now or havign a decent pension at a later date then there’s not much of a competition.
However, many employees may not see it this way. It is actually quite difficult to see logical arguments when you feel under threat.
If you want your employees to feel happier about it, then the fine art of persuasion is called for. Sometimes people actually need someone to sit down with them and get the employee to look at the options and decide which is best. People are often very afraid of risk and they may think the only risk is the pension while not understanding it could save their job.
ut it’s also not right just to use the economy as an excuse to change something you’ve always wanted to and not had the guts to do. Many people can see through this and it’s not going to make them jump up and down at the prospect of work every day.
If you need a hand with changes, give me a call on 0780 680 1411 or email jeanette@jeanettesargent.co.uk
Today, according to the Yorkshire Post. It looks likely that the once mighty Jarvis of the Rail Engineering world will be unable to pay its staff any redundancy pay.
Their Union; The RMT are obviously distraught about this as are the employees themselves (and undoubtedly their families). I used to live opposite someone who worked for Jarvis. They had had a lovely house and family. I thought Jarvis were mega stars. It’s sad how things have changed in the current times.
If you’re worried about redundancy, you might fear losing your job or you’re an employer who’s got to make some cuts. Please, get in touch. I can help you find a new career or can help you manage the process.
What’s more I will gladly coach 3 people for free, yes that’s worth £265 per session but is yours for free. This applies to organisations as well as individuals but hurry, this offer only lasts until the 15th July.
It’s never too late to plan your next move. Let’s look at the options. I can strongly recommend reading Geoff Burch’s books on setting up businesses if you’re brave and ready for something new.

Thinking about coaching – but you’re still unsure?
Maybe you’ve heard:
• It’s expensive
• It’s hassle
• It’s just for wimps
• It’s all tosh
These excuses are made by the ‘humdrum many’, who’ll never be able to grab their life by the scruff of the neck and turn it around.
The truth is, not everyone knows how to transform their lives. And even less realise it has nothing to do with how much your take home pay is. But money is a good place to start:
Perhaps you’re worried you won’t gel with your coach and your money would have been better spent elsewhere?
No doubt if you’ve read so far, you are wondering what qualifies me to coach.
Well, I’ve been coaching for the last 15 years and have Level 5 and 7 in Executive and Individual Coaching from the Institute of Leadership and Management.
Whilst the qualifications may not mean much to most, it does mean I know all the models of coaching and been assessed in live sessions.
And of course, I invest in my own training, attend seminars and have coaching by the most well known coaches possible.
Who do I help? I do personal and corporate coaching.
Whatever is keeping you awake at night – I can help find the right thing for you to do.
Perhaps you’re after a promotion – or a new job – but are afraid to take the next step. I can help YOU banish this fear.
You may not be getting on as well as you would like with your boss, your wife, your husband, your partner or someone else.
I can help YOU resolve this, leaving you feeling so much happier.
Or perhaps you are responsible for a team and performance needs to improve? Or maybe you’re just a responsible employer who knows the benefits of a happy team.
I can help YOU do all this.
• In fact, where ever the gaps are in your life, I can show you to fill them
• Get a great job
• Improve your performance
• Have a better relationship with your partner,
• Follow your passion
• Get the work/life balance right
• Overcome stress
And don’t forget – the first session is free. So you have nothing to lose. Why not email me right now – or pick up the phone – and we can an action plan together. I won’t cost you a penny and you’ll see how I can help you get the most out of life.
What have you got to lose? Why not pick up the phone right now?
